Z Casino Sportsbook

While Colorado gaming law does not allow for online casinos, sports wagering became legal in the state on May 1.

When it comes to online betting apps, bettors can wager anywhere within state lines.

The owner and operator of Z Casino, Maverick Gaming LLC, has yet to announce plans for retail and online sportsbook operations. Still, based on the fact that the company has obtained a sports betting license in Colorado, it intends to enter the market.

The passage of Proposition DD in November 2019 set the stage for legal sports betting in Colorado on May 1. With that in mind, Z Casino obtained its sports betting license from the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission in April of opening both retail and online sportsbooks.

Maverick Gaming purchased CC Gaming, the former owner of Z Casino, in December 2019. At that time, Maverick majority owner Eric Persson said, “This purchase gives Maverick Gaming sports betting in two states, and we look forward to adding more jurisdictions in the coming months.” The company already operated sportsbooks in Nevada.

As further proof, Maverick’s commitment to sports betting, Persson told The Seattle Times the company plans to spend $20 million-$30 million to fight a bill in the state of Washington that allows sports betting at tribal casinos only.

Maverick currently owns four casinos in Nevada:

• Gold Country Inn and Casino
• Red Lion Hotel and Casino
• Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino

The WilliamHill sports betting operator runs the sportsbooks at Red Garter, Red Lion and Wendover.

With its roots based in the United Kingdom, William Hill is one of the leading betting and gaming companies in the world. Its US-based operation, William Hill US, is the largest sports betting business in the country.

William Hill already has agreements with Colorado casinos Isle Casino and Lady Luck Casino to run retail and online sportsbooks.

Z Casino boasts hundreds of games but does not host a poker room. The video poker and slot machines range in price from pennies up to $100.

The denominations run from pennies up to $100, which is the highest amount that Colorado gaming law permits. Z Casinos offers the newest machines as well as hard-to-find video craps, blackjack and roulette machines.

Z Casino has five table games for its patrons to choose from, offering blackjack, roulette, and poker to play.

Z Casino rewards program

Z Casino Black Hawk has a rewards program called Club Z, which it shares with fellow Maverick Gaming casinos Johnny Z’s and Grand Z, both in Central City, CO.

Club Z features four tiers: Club, Flame, Nitro and Turbo. The more members play with their Club Z cards, the more points they earn and thus, the more comps, discounts and giveaways they receive.

Some of the perks of being a Club Z member include:

• Monthly casino promotions and rewards.
• Member-only specials.
• Car giveaways.
• Z Casino’s famous prime rib meal deal. Members who earn 100 points in one day receive a free prime rib dinner that day only.

• Flame: 5,000-24,999 points)
• Nitro: 25,000-49,999 points

Z Casino does not have a poker room.

Amenities at Z Casino Black Hawk

Z Casino does not have an on-site hotel; however, its website offers accommodations at its sister casino, Grand Z, which is a short drive away. Be advised, though, that Grand Z is not in Black Hawk.

The Z does have tworestaurants on the premises.

Dining

• Mustang Grill: Serves American-style food, including burgers, sandwiches, steaks, ribs, soups and salads. It also serves breakfast all day.
• ZBucks: This deli offers Starbucks beverages and quick to-go options, including sandwiches, pizza and ice cream.

Its sister casino, Grand Z Casino Hotel in Central City, is home to The Mile High Room for entertainment. The entertainment space, on the second floor of the casino, features a dance floor and stage. It hosts live musical shows regularly, mostly on Friday and Saturday nights.

The building that houses Z Casino in Black Hawk is the original home of Bullwhackers Casino, one of Colorado’s first casinos that opened in 1992.
